Want That Promotion? Here’s How to Get It

You have all the skills to be a leader and a management position at the organization you work for has become available. You may find yourself wondering how exactly you go out for a promotion.

3C Contact Services, the leading provider of outsourced call center solutions, says that there are a number of ways you can ensure that you will be considered for a promotion at work, the most important being working for a company where there’s room for advancement. You don’t necessarily have to work for a large organization to do this, as there are plenty of opportunities with smaller companies as well.

It goes without saying that doing the best you can at your current position is another strategy for getting a promotion. Even showing up a few minutes early and leaving a few minutes later can go a long way to showing that you are dedicated to the business.

Be sure to let everyone know about the good job you’re doing, but don’t overdo it, as no one likes a brownnoser; many managers often dislike employees who try to kiss up too much as well. Be subtle about it, but at the same time, let the right people know that you are doing a good job.

Like it or not, promotions can often be a popularity contest. With that in mind, continue doing a good job while being friendly with everyone in the company, from coworkers to managers. If you are known as someone that everyone can get along with, that will go a long way to helping you when it’s time for a promotion.

You can do a great job and be known as the person that everyone gets along with, but at the end of the day, if you don’t let the right people know that you’re interested in being promoted, they’ll just assume that you’re a really good employee. Be up-front about your intentions.

Apply to jobs within your organization. Be sure to apply to the right positions and take the process seriously; don’t just expect to be handed the position. Whether it’s advancing your education, volunteering, or learning a new language, constantly seeking to upgrade your skills will set you apart when applying for a promotion.

Finally, 3C Contact Services suggests finding a long-time employee and adopting them as a mentor. You should also be a mentor, yourself, to an employee you feel would be a good replacement if you get a promotion. If nothing else, this will show that you are willing to take the initiative when it comes to training.
